What is your take on having family members work with you at your job? I feel as though as long is they are in a different department it should be ok (that’s how my job does it now actually).

HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.

When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Has anyone found roles in Big 4 or industry that allowed more work life balance when their kids were young without damaging future career trajectory? I'm a partner with young kids and feel like I'm missing out on too much of their lives. Wishful, but my dream job would have a lighter workload in terms of time and pressure for the next ~5 years, but not set me back too much (or at all) when the kids are older and tired of me in a few years and I'm ready to be back at work full force.

Had a miscarriage.. it’s my 1st baby and we didn’t find out until 12 weeks (via ultrasound) that the baby passed away at 9 weeks and had to get a dnc. My body is still recovering..
