I will rather want my girlfriend to stay at home when we have our kids. But I have to ask her about it. I cannot just unilaterally decide for her. It's her career and I know how much she worked for it. So decisions must be agreed by both of us.
Amen to that! I wanted to stay home with our daughter initially. But after a few weeks, I was chomping at the bit to get back to work and my husband didn't want to leave her side!
Not super familiar with the navy hope someone else here can give you advice. Tough situation.
Since both of you are officers, whoever decides to stay in the military will still have plenty of career opportunities. It all comes down to who is more willing to stay at home and do most of the parenting duties. Even if only one of you is working the salary and benefits are still enough to support your family.
I think it would be more beneficial for your girlfriend to discharge as it would be really inconvenient for you all to keep a proper feeding schedule if she works all day, but at the end of the day it comes down to what is best for you both.
I can only think of benefits and other perks. Full medical coverage, full dental coverage, discounted travel, 30 days' paid vacation each year and up to $4,500 a year in tuition assistance are just some of the benefits.
You should talk it out. I am sure both of you will find a common ground. Sacrifices and compromises are inevitable in relationships.
