There are soooo many ways a place can be toxic. You have the mean people, you have the overworking demands, you have chaos and uncertainty…. Or you have what I have where I love the people I work with, good at my job, the workload sucks (pretty much because legal has hidden the MSA behind closed doors and make shit deals on hours allocation% to keep business) but the network strangles us and you can’t get a raise to save your life no matter how well you perform and slowly go insane working long hours just grumbling “why tf do I even care, I don’t care about this job, this job doesn’t care about me CLEARLY…” and then just keep grinding and grinding until you don’t feel feelings anymore
Wow, seeing those words typed by someone else is sobering. How did the work world get this bad? (rhetorical question)
I don’t remember the suck being as great in the 90s. Maybe it was always there, I was just too young to see/feel it.
While I’ll always go for working with good team players, in an encouraging environment, at the end of the day business is business. Liking who you work with is a plus.
Once you’re health is in check and you believe you’re compensated fairly, I’d say stick to it. If things reach a point where colleagues are intentionally making work/the workplace more difficult for you to perform your duties, this is where a superior needs to be made aware and matters need to be addressed.
