I’m a big law associate (class of 2017) looking to go in house and trying to set salary expectations (especially for the interview stage when I’m asked). I don’t want to go too low that I disadvantage myself but I don’t want to go too high that they rule me out for it. I’m in NYC looking to go to a tech companies that all have about a ~$1bn valuation. Would appreciate any insight into a reasonable salary range

PSA to all associates: having been around the block, I hate to see the notion being sold that recruiters have information about positions that are not listed. When it comes to lateral associate recruiting between big law firms, the vast majority of firms post all their positions online. It makes simple economic sense because then they get more associates applying. The whole notion that recruiters even have deep connections to law firms is also usually garbage for associate recruiting. Continued.

Actively applying for new experienced audit Associate positions at Mid-sized public firms. Currently working in the Big 4 and covid has really shown the firm’s true colors—they don’t give a sh*t about the employees. Been looking at CBIZ and Marcum.. any other suggestions? Located in Boston/Providence area. Thanks 🙏🏼

Anyone have helpful pointers on “lateral” interviews?

I was invited to interview with a large firm. I say “lateral” because my current firm (second year associate) has less than 15 attorneys, and this firm has over 500. I’m worried that despite my relevant work experience, my answers won’t be as relatable given my firm background. Are there any standard lateral-type questions that I should prepare for?

I’ll still take it in this tough market. Do I have leverage to talk about early promos and talk about staffing before I join? Any advice?
