Oh my gosh, that is so weird and uncomfortable! I probably would've called her out by saying, "Are you taking a photo of me?" or "I'm sorry, is there something that you think I should be doing differently?" But then again, I know that's easier said than done and sometimes it's hard to think on your feet like that when something shocking like that is happening. I would tell your co-workers or your boss about it and see what they would have done in that situation. I'm sorry you had to deal with that- the nerve of some people!!!
I don't mean to be hateful to Gen Z'ers at all, but was she a Gen Z'er? Because I have kids who are and they do this all the time. They think it's the funniest thing ever.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'd feel afraid if someone took a photo of me. I'd like to say that I'd feel bold enough to call them out on it, but when I feel stressed in situations like that, I just shut down. so I understand the feelings you're explaining.
I am sorry that happened to you. Had a former coworker get taken a picture of her back without her knowledge or consent by a customer because the customer didn’t like what she was wearing even though there was nothing immodest explicit or graphic about it. So messy and it was a shift where we were short and she was helping by cashiering.
First of all, I would have just told her “No, please don’t take my picture”. But in your case, you could’ve just asked her to delete it after the fact. I think it would be more productive if instead, you turned your reflection inwards. Why didn’t you say no? Why didn’t you ask her to delete it afterward? More importantly: visualize how you would like to react the next time it happens, so that if it does, you can just fall back on that and have it prepared and ready.
Once had a customer take a picture of me. But he did so because he believed I was trying to steal his credit card info. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal.
That is so weird. I don't work in retail or with customers face-to-face anymore so I haven't had this happen to me. But I would directly confront the person and tell them that's inappropriate!
That's odd! I wouldn't be comfortable if I were you. I wold have called her out politely.
