Recently our policy changed and we are able to wear shorts. I never will though because they need to touch the knee, not many women’s styles would qualify 😅

like

Agree. It's hard to pull off long shorts unless you have longer legs.

like

Joys of working remotely, I can wear pajamas every day 😂

like

The last time I checked, if women wear shorts, they cannot be short shorts and men are allowed to wear shorts as long as they aren't athletic style. I have seen women in short shorts, but I don't think management said anything.

like

Absolutely. But it’s super hot here in the south and many of the team, even execs don’t get to stay in their office so it’s a comfort thing. As long as it’s clean and well kept. Even the highest level exec on site wears shorts.

like

Never ! We are all expected to wear business casual. I have been here over 10 years and we just recently found out we can wear jeans on Friday's - not sure why it took 10 yrs to get that perk - lol.

like

Nope :/ and the building does not turn on the AC in the summer. It's brutal

No but I don’t mind at all- I don’t really like shorts. I find them uncomfortable and would much rather wear a dress or skirt if it’s really hot

No shorts but I like the thin long pants.

We have two different uniforms. One is with pants and the other comes with shorts for when it's hot outside.

Yes we can where shorts that go below the knees. Our dress code is not very strict so I feel like even that would be lenient as long as it's not excessive

Does anyone else feel like people who are generally nice in person and on calls sound mean or stand-offish in emails and text/chat? I get that over-use of friendliness in text can come off as green/immature, but I tend to try and cushion my words with positivity or even exclamation marks/the occasional emoji to show that I don't sound completely unemotional.

Or maybe i'm just an overthinking copywriter who's reading into it too much.

I just picked up a new freelance gig after coming out (again 😮‍💨) but professionally and they're really respecting my pronouns! They did a whole thing where they're having people add their pronouns to their email signature too 🥰

They never make a deal out of it and if they mess up they correct and move right along. They're from the Midwest and some of the team is older too so its really nice 😅

Just wanted to share the good news and say it very much is possible to have people respect them☺️

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

I am about to leave my current organization and I have several thousand in outstanding commission owed to me. So something crazy happened to me last week. I was at the airport, and as usual on call after call. The check in line was going ridiculously slowly and at some point turned threw my hands up in frustration while looking around to find another place to check in. In doing so, I catch the eye of the behind me. He smiles and says something. I just sort of nod and carry on with my call. After that, he keeps trying to talk to me, eventually I got to the check, say bye and leave. At security… tbc

Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Thinking of switching employers. Do you think bigger retail stores (the ones that have several locations) are easier or harder to work at than little hole-in-the-wall grocery stores (which is all I've ever done)? It seems like the larger chain stores would have more downtime, but I'm wondering if anyone could give some input.
