Can someone please provide what has worked in dealing with staff that have a disconnect with their role and skill level?

I inherited a first level staff that is constantly trying to manage their peers and inserts themselves into conversations with upper management. To top it off, they are not willing to learn. It seems they fell they are the smartest person in the room, so coaching has not helped address any of these issues. Help.

My boss in my creative agency threatened to fire me because I, a male, came into work with my nails painted. Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? The IC gives vague “direction” then says they are too busy to clarify. They also refuse to use our project management/ collaboration tools.

Permanent WFH is mentioned, however in the offer letter there is nothing mentioned for
it, and HR said a specific document will not be provided for Permanent WFH. Any

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?

Tax senior with CPA at small firm. Best way to get to Big 4 audit? (LA or OC) Went to non-target so little to no alumni at B4. I don’t mind the switch to a lower title since audit was always my preference and was never a fan of tax (stayed local for family).

I’m an auditor who recently made the switch to advisory. When I was in audit, I could predict my schedule. I knew when I’d be busy (i.e. during busy season or interim) so I didn’t make plans during those weeks or those weekends. In advisory, my schedule has become less predictable. Twice now, I’ve been told about last minute deadlines that have forced me to work over a weekend and late into the evenings, interfering with prior plans I had made. Is this normal in advisory?
