Depending on how you track your projects, tools, etc:
- consider infographic model. Great way to make uninteresting things seem fancy
- not sure what your audience is, but clients generally like to see movement and love dashboards. Draw the eye to progress without requiring the brain to think too much. Work in status tracker/graphs/whatever into a section of your newsletter
- if clients have their own deliverables i’d probably find a way to incorporate those, their due dates, and consequences for misses. Some client I’ve worked with love corny so a “coming up next week...” would work well. If your client is dry, you could just bullet.
- probably consider an roadmap for the overall project timeline. Use this to give yourself and team credit for how much you’ve accomplished despite roadblocks, etc. - this one also depends on the client but if they like feeling feathered, add a shout outs column to kudos their own teams help/commitments (if they have any)
Very dry client so will have to keep it tame. I’m wondering how new things will be each month, great ideas
Make it sound exciting and real for people. How their work If affected for the better with all the amazing stuff the project is doing. Basically BS.
Assuming its for client employee consumption- Frame it like a corny advertisement.
I've had similar requests on BPIs or org redesigns.
"These new changes will help you XYZ"
"No more ABC you'll now be able to 1,2,3"
Announce timeliness, highlight achievements/ impact, great for requesting additional input, change championship etc. As well
I think it’s the tone and format of the update that makes the difference. Rather than dry updates, you’ll want to switch your tone to more a more salesgirl, positive, buzzy tone to generate excitement. You may also want to include what to look forward to.
Who is the audience?
Government stakeholders, finance departments
Sounds like you know exactly what this will look like?
Hey OP, out of curiosity- what did you end up putting together and how did it land? Working on a similar project to roll out monthly updates to my companies client base and would love to hear more about what worked for your client given their industry / dryness.
Thanks!
