Currently a first year analyst with a TS/SCI full scope clearance. Yet at my firm I’m paid the same as my uncleared peers because you don’t receive a clearance bonus until a few years down the road. Are there places where I could receive a big pay bump for my clearance or since I’m so new to the game would it be wiser to stick around even without any reward for the clearance?

You will get a bonus if you work a cleared project.
If you want a quick salary bump then you will have to boomerang. A FS is in high demand, but keep in mind that most govt contracts also have minimum years of experience requirements for labor categories so you might not get as high of a bump as you are thinking of if you don't have the YOE.

like

No no. D lowballs clearances coming in period. Even if you work a cleared one they don’t care. I worked IC contractors before D. It’s pretty ridiculous.

like

Uh yeah, you could probably score nicely at Microsoft or Amazon

like

The amount of times Microsoft and Amazon reach out and advertise “hiring TS cleared” it’s pretty absurd. Personally I’m only Secret cleared (and do not want to escalate it) and avoid it but it doesn’t stop the recruiters

Moving to a place where I get a 30% salary increase each year bc I hold a clearance. It’s a boutique firm.

like

What firm?

AFS hires in brand new analysts with TS at around 80-82k...

Work for 2 years and try to do some non-TS work, because the TS work just moves slower/less high demand...because you are tougher to replace. Deloitte looks great on a resume and you need 2 years minimum.

I cleared a skilled consultant from a secret level- who came in and ran laps around the team and in 2 years he’s been promoted twice and also received 2 off cycle pay bumps...because matching clearance with true consulting skills is often tough (or rarely internally available).

like

D3, you should switch employers with an eye to make no less than 155k.

likehelpful

Everyone gives pay for clearances minus D. If you went to a normal IC contractor this wouldn’t be an issue.

The disrespect for cleared people is so real.

like

Not to take over this post, but I have a TS SCI and I was looking to leave D. I have certs but not a lot of working knowledge since I moved to different areas and projects. Can anyone help? I just wanted something that pays fair and possibly a way to advance my pen testing skills, but anything cyber related would be cool.

G1 😂😂😂😂😂

Wow, D does this to its own people too? They offered me the same starting salary as my uncleared peers despite having an active TS/SCI FS. Honestly, I felt embarrassed, for them. Needless to say, I politely declined the offer.

Why does their approach differ so much from other area contractors with cleared work?

like

Because D seems to think it’s still a step above it’s peers (worked there and it’s not really)

Hi OP, we have tons of very interesting work that you could use your clearance for — and get paid a lot more while you’re at it. I’m tapped into that market at BAH, so feel free to DM if you’d like to discuss further!

Having left Booz Allen for a 20% lateral to Deloitte, this is just wrong

likefunny

Did you find anything you're interested in? I can refer you to AFS most likely

That's awesome, you definitely made the right choice. Yep, Booz has some cool projects and an amazing reputation with DoD senior leadership, but needs to figure out how to charge clients more so they can pay talent appropriately and improve retention.

Try Working

As a former member of the IC, these frequent questions about “how much money can I score for my clearance” are starting to get tiresome and disappointing.

If the work is boring might as well try to get paid as much as possible for it.

Should I accept the new offer ? How do I tell the previous company about this? Also, I’ve already negotiated with the first company and the $115K base is the negotiated salary. I really do not prefer one company over the other. They’re both great! I’m very confused here. TIA🙏
