I think what you might be describing is getting into flow state. For me this flow state may be good for 25 minutes or a few hours, after about 25 minutes of structured warm up.
For me that is sitting at my computer with noise cancelling headphones and focus music (no lyrics). I set a timer and start by taking a few deep breaths to transition then write a list of things I want to get done in the next hour - with intent to move towards one of my major goals for the day.
I start the list with super easy things like get water, clear desktop (physically and electronically), scan and CLOSE email and text notifications, phone on DND. Then I open the document I’m going to work on, outline the sections/steps, then get started on step one.
The process of checking things off the list helps me build momentum, and by the time I check off the easy things and dive into the second or third task, I’m hopefully in flow. Thereafter take breaks at least once an hour and repeat the timer. Lately I do about 2- 4 hours of deep work per day unless I have a big deadline or I get super motivated and can flow until late in the evening.
If someone has figured out how to make them last that is the advice that I need. I know exaclty what you are talking about OP and I have never been able to get that focus to last very long.
