For all the dads out there - is there any gift you would have appreciated immediately after your first kid was born? One of our team members just welcomed his newborn daughter and we want to send something thoughtful his way.

I appreciated anything that helped take care of a usual “everyday task” because those necessary things don’t go away, just get 10 times harder. For instance, cooking a meal. So maybe a Gift card to a meal delivery service or restaurant? Even a single meal that I didn’t have to think about was a game changer for both my wife and I.

like

Oh yeah gift card options to one of those meal delivery programs is a great idea

like

My team got a monogrammed baby blanket for the birth of my 2nd son. He still uses it as his nap blanket at school!

like

We already have some onesies ordered and thinking of having the team sign a big card, but would love to hear some other ideas!

like

Food. Door dash gift card. I know it sounds a bit impersonal but omg when you’re that sleep deprived and food just appears, it’s magical.

like

Absolutely agreed food is the best gift

like

Amazon giftcard… if they don’t have a registry, let them pick out what they want

like

Spa gift certificate for me and my wife. We got 3 hours to ourselves while my mom watched our baby. Deep tissue massages and pedicure to help my wife feel pampered

like

They probably have most stuff they need, so the biggest meal gift card you can get? Either that, or just an Amazon gift card

like

https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/breville-barista-touch-espresso-maker/

Gift cards - Amazon, door dash, target, etc. are helpful. If this is their first, there’s probably so many little things they didn’t know they needed. I’ve also searched for people’s registries (if you know the partners name as well) and just bought things off that

Nice home delivery meal service. Making good food is so hard when the baby is newborn.

1. Diapers size 2
2. Diapers size 3
3. Diapers size 4

Something his wife can appreciate to get some reprieve. Since you are not “family” stick to an uber eats gift card or some other delivered meal service that gives options/ flexibility

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. Any suggestions?

I’m pretty torn on whether I want to take an offer for an internal role or not…
The job itself sounds pretty interesting. Lots of opportunity for growth (eventually will build out a team).

My only concern is the hiring manager. I talked to someone in my network who has worked with him in the past and she told me that she would 100% work with him again bc she learned a lot, but that he has a very dominant personality and that some ppl can butt heads with him.

I am a woman who has been working as a tech PE investor for 8 months now, and have been feeling extremely discouraged by my experiences in this sector so far. I regularly get mistaken as the “administrative assistant” in meetings and email chains, have had things said to me by men such as “the only way you work in private equity is as a receptionist”, and have even been at networking events where men have literally grabbed my ass when no one was looking. Any advice on how to handle this?

Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.

Struggling to get work at a free market firm after lateraling. I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Can I kindly get advice on my resume? I have a resume writer/career coach who took all of my info to put this together.

I think I may have made a huge mistake today. My skip level director sent out an email about something and asked us for feedback. I sent back a note and provided some. One of the things I said was that our job satisfaction might be improved if we could do more of X kind of work instead of Y kind of work that we do so much of in our group. The next thing I know, I get a ping from his EA to set up time for me to chat with him and my director tomorrow. I am getting in trouble tomorrow, right?
