Oh boy, don't get me started on this. I've worked with people who were just impossible that way, I had to hear about all their problems. I swear, I know more about one woman's annoying neighbors than I knew about my own. The best approach I could come up with was just to politely tell them to knock if off when it really got distracting. In my head I guess I had like a five minute rule, if they were going on for more than five minutes I'd remind them people had work to do. I'm sure they resented me for it, but hey, I had work to do.
My manager had asked me when I interviewed for this role 2 years ago if I was ok with some chatter and other workers having fun goofing around while working- she was pretty much saying it's a laid back atmosphere which is fine and I agreed but now since I have been there it like insane right now and I talk to patients and insurance companies on the phone often and they talk about very inappropriate things. Did you telling them to knock it off resolve the issue or only for a brief moment? What did you do long term?
