Here are some questions I have:

What's a reasonable percentage of monthly net income to spend on rent in a HCOL city? Right now it looks it will be 37% but that seems high.
After clearing debt, 6 mo emergency fund, maxing 401k contributions, what's next? Mega backdoor Roth IRAs seem a little overwhelming, maybe something like a HYSA or just a trading account?

Newbie Tax filing question, worked for a US employer Jan - July in NJ and then moved and worked for a Canadian employer Sept - Dec. Work permit holder in both countries at the time. What's the best way to file taxes in both countries? Has anyone done this before? Looking for guidance, gotchas, tax filing recommendations...

Everyone has a different perspective on this but would love to hear yours. Someone has debt ranging say 4-5% interest rates. Do you attack debt more then investing to move towards a debt free life or do you go after investments since they return historically above that then paying down closer towards retirement. I know the latter looks better on paper but what about the psychological factors of being debt free and the guaranteed return on interest savings.

Using Robinhood to do some day trading. Bought a share of Amazon a few months back and have almost 30% ROI. Should I sell? It seems like it is too high right now and the bottom could fall any moment.

Desi folks - question on travelling outside US while you're on L1B visa. I have my valid visa stamp till 2022. Do any of you know if we can travel to India in Dec and come back in Jan? Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.
