As an ADC applying this summer for 2022 start, I haven’t gotten a chance to connect with any L.E.K. Consulting members and I really want to get to know the company better before moving on with my application. Any L.E.K. Consulting fish out there willing to spare a few minutes to chat about their work, the company, the culture etc? Thanks!

Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

If it was me, I’d probably take AWS to get that resume credibility that can help with opportunities down the road.
I have worked at a unicorn and a large tech company in sales. Personally, I’d start by eliminating the IPaaS company. That market is fairly saturated with both big name tech brands (Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, IBM) as well as established IPaaS vendors (Informatica, Mulesoft (owned by Salesforce), Boomi (formerly Dell), etc…). As an SDR, that means it’s tough to differentiate and the role can be more of a grind than it already will be.
Unicorn will likely have a better culture and give you more responsibility/flexibility/experience which I would argue is more important than having AWS SDR on a resume. However, if you don’t like the data integration space, it can be hard to pivot to a different vertical quickly. You’ll also likely get better visibility from top executives which can help from a long-term career point of view.
AWS would give you more initial career flexibility since they play in so many different tech verticals. Also AWS tends to be a leading vendor in those verticals which makes the sales cycle that much easier. The culture is likely more 8-5 mentality than a unicorn/startup which can be good and bad (good for work-life balance, bad because you have no emotional investment into what you do).
Have to agree with this. The experience I got at a high growth startup was invaluable. Emotional investment is a huge thing to consider as well. This is great breakdown. Depends on what your looking for!
Forgot to mention that I’ve gotten job offers for all 3 companies
I am sure you’ve done this but definitely look at Glassdoor, repvue, LinkedIn, etc. to try and get an idea of employee tenure of other sales folks at these companies. In my experience, growth opportunities don’t matter if your gunna want to quit in 6months anyway. Congrats🤘🏼 best of luck to you
FWIW, I’d go with the most established and secure company right now with the potentially uncertain shifting economic conditions. AWS can definitely weather a downturn. Startups are riskier in a downturn. Depending on your life stage it might be worth the risk, though!
