I have a couple of accounts. 2 of them i split my check evenly into, 1 i use to distribute my savings into several HYSA - vacation fund, housing repairs, investments and car funds. The other i use to pay bills - i do this 2 ways, i use my cc to autopay all my bills and pay it off from my bill account, second, i auto transfer a portion of my mortgage each paycheck to another acoount from my bills account then auto pay my mortgage from there so theres always enough.
I know it may sound complex but i prefer not to comingle my money and it really helps me see clearly where everything goes.
Hope this helps!
One checking account for everything.
Multiple -
1 main checking where direct deposit goes & it feeds into others.
That account has auto payments with insurance, utilities, etc.
1 account that is with a bank for a loan - it pulls from the main checking account for auto payments, that’s just the way they liked it set up.
& I have a HYSA
& investment accounts
But those are not checking accounts.
SE1 That makes sense
My husband and I have one joint checking account that we both send our main income to that’s for all the household needs. I have a second job and that money goes into a separate checking/savings account that only I have access to. If my husband were to get a second job that would be his money to put wherever he wants.
Spouse and I have checking and savings. Direct deposits and all bills on auto pay are through savings. Spending is on credit cards that get auto paid off every month. 6 month emergency fund is in savings and everything else is money market account.
2 main checking accounts that I auto deposit my paycheck into:
one is for all regular bills (mortgage, utilities, car, credit card minimums, subscriptions, etc). Those bills are all on autopay and the balance rolls over- so if one month my cable bill is $300 because we ordered a few movies, it’s no big deal) also have $500 of overdraft on that account just in case something comes up, my bills are always paid on time, in full)
The other one is for all other savings and spending. I divy up the money from this account into several others for pocket money (for gas, random lunches out, beauty purchases, etc), vacation savings, sports fee savings, car maintenance, etc.
