How is the culture at EY tax in northeast FSO? How is it to work at EY tax in general specifically the FSO group partnership compliance? I am considering making a jump. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

As a first year you would be fine because people doesn’t really know you yet so they won’t give you as much work as the other people in your same rank. You won’t be only one client I would say between average of 4-5. For me, Hours are long like easily pass 3am during the summer. Technology doesn’t function as you would want to go function sometimes. BUT people is still generally EY nice, there is a lot smart people with great personality, people usually care about others!

Forgot to mention.. the above situation only applied assuming you are manager and below. Sr mgrs have their # engagements vari from 5-15+.

I’ve heard that as well! That EY’s tax practice is busier than Deloitte’s.

Make sure to stay away from the Philly FSO tax.

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?
