I’ve been PT my whole career to buy myself flexibility. And I focus on the idea that when I’m dead, nobody is going to give a shit whether I was a good lawyer. I have set all kinds of boundaries at work to protect my family. I still got all the work done, but I did it my own way. I actually think I get a lot of respect at work for that.
This is very rare though. I agree with the original poster- almost every partner i know has sacrificed their family for their career.
Well. It doesn’t have to be that way. I’ve worked hard to end up where I am — on all fronts. If you want to make your marriage and family work, prioritize them. Stand up to your job. It IS possible.
Honestly, most partners I know are divorced, should be divorced, or have a stay at home partner who raises their kids for them.
Wow- something seems broken about the culture at your firm if all the partners have been divorced.
