Google? Read reviews? Ask people? Look on psychology today... tons of ways
Sometimes it’s about just picking one and if it doesn’t work out move on to the next. I did the same thing you did and regretted putting it off so long but ultimately found a great one.
I didn’t find in network that had good reviews/decent hours/ close to my office so I went out of network (30% coinsurance if you have hit your deductible). It’s pretty daunting but I found one that had quite a few therapists by looking through websites. I emailed them hours I could do sessions, they send me back several profiles, and I picked one.
If you have access to the Employee Assistance Program, they can direct you to a therapist. First few sessions are free and if you like them, you can continue and pay through your benefits! Takes out all the research which is great!
Op where is your local? I’m currently looking for a therapist for anxiety and panic attacks and have some leads. I have an Ivy League psychiatrist, from my home town I talk to over the phone, that said I would benefit from a therapist to talk to regularly.
Boston, which has arguably too many and most have waiting lists
Ask your primary care physician for referrals.
Your GP can also refer you
Psychology Today has a good chunk of listings for therapists. Generally they have specialties listed and a short bio. That’s how I found mine
I feel you, I’m struggling with the same situation (also boston based). I find it very hard to not only find a good therapist but someone with hours that works for this job, especially since I’m often at various client sites throughout the state so lunch appointments aren’t an option and don’t want to raise concern by using flexibility options regularly since I know the question will come up of where I am. I don’t have any suggestions but hope you find something!
