I suggest looking at online certification programs in the industry or career that you want to be in and going from there. Once you realize what you're truly passionate about, start working towards what skillset you need to achieve your goal. You might have to spend more unpaid hours obtaining that education, but it will likely be worth it in the end :)
Cool thanks. It's hard for me to figure out what I'm passionate about.. any tips?
There are jobs and industries that doesn't need a degree. You can go for assistant roles or Human Resource. What's important is you continue learning and developing new skills. Consider taking courses or workshops, attending industry events, or finding a mentor to help guide you on your career journey.
Thank you for this encouraging response! Do you have any advice for finding a good mentor? I don't have a lot of money to invest in mentorship and at the same time I really want to figure out where I belong.
What do you want to do? Any interests or industries that you want to join? You can do some admin work or HR work if you want to.
Honestly, I'm kind of at a loss. I don't feel deserving of better jobs without a degree, so I just feel kind of stuck.
Well, first off let me say that you shouldn't feel like customer service isn't a valuable place to be! You're helping people every day and learnings lots of important skills along the way. That being said, if it's not your passion there are definitely other options out there for you. Many companies are happy to hire employees without a college degree as long as they have some sort of relevant experience or skill set. So start exploring different avenues and see where you might fit in best!
I hadn't planned on working in customer service, but a friend got me the job and I'm grateful for it. However, it's not something I want to do long-term. Without a college degree, it's hard to know where to go from here. So we're on the same boat.
You don't need a college degree to advance your career. Look into certifications, apprenticeships, and other educational programs. I recently joined an online course to learn a new skill, and it's been really helpful in furthering my career goals.
I'm currently trying to build my skills and network to figure out what I'm interested in and where I'd like to take my career. I'm taking online classes to learn more about the industry and I'm also attending networking events and informational interviews. With some hard work, I'm confident I can find a career that better suits my interests and skills. You could go down that route too.
In my experience, customer service is a great way to get your foot in the door at a lot of different places. I've met people who have gone on to do all sorts of things after starting out in customer service. So, even though it might not be your long-term goal, it can still be a valuable stepping stone. And if you're looking to move up within customer service, there are usually opportunities for training and advancement.
Thank you! How do you find new opportunities to step to, so to speak, if it's like a stepping stone??
I'm thankful for the opportunity I have to work in customer service, but I'm looking for a new challenge. I know that I may need to go back to school to get the qualifications I need for a new career. I'm researching my options and exploring internships, so I can gain experience in the field I want to pursue. Join me if you like
You can get a certification to help you advance in your career. Where do you want to work next? I suggest you figure it out first so that it would be easier for you to know what certification to get.
It happened to me ten years ago. It's not the job I had hoped for, but I ended up working in this field anyway. I grew to like it and adopted it as my safe haven. And as time passed, I performed admirably and was promoted by the client. It doesn't matter if it's not what you want in life; what matters is your dedication. The most important thing is that you can put food on the table and pay your bills on time.
