5mg is typically a starting dose to get your body used to the medication. Communicate with your doctor that you’re not feeling effects and would like to try 10 or 15.
Mm do you feel ‘buzzy’ at all? Or more anxious? On a side note, I always like to mention to people new to ADHD medicine that it can help you focus but doesn’t tell you what to focus on. Ex: if I take adhd medicine and it kicks in while I am playing a video game it will be challenging to pull away
Low and slow is a good approach and unfortunately it's trial and error to find the right dosage AND medication. 5mg of anything does nothing for me. I take up to 60mg of fast-acting Ritalin per day (that's the max; I do 20-40 in the morning depending on how horrific my work day is, and another 20 in the afternoon if I am still captaining the struggle bus). To be honest I still cannot find a single F to give about my job BUT I have become delightfully productive in all other aspects of my life. Vyvanse made my bad insomnia nearly a manic state (I am also bipolar so... I know the smell of mania coming on). Adderall has never been available at my pharmacy since I've been getting meds or I'd try that. Good luck, OP! 💪
Adderall is not a quick solution as many think it takes times to figure out what medication is best, which dose is best, and when to take it.
Also, it takes some learning about how it affects you. It doesn’t make you focus how you think focusing is. You learn to get a feel for how it helps and to start using those new feelings affectivly.
Oh I should add: medication alone is not "the solution." Medication can help us, but we still have years if not decades of bad coping mechanisms and habits we need to unlearn and replace with better ones. No medication is going to reasonably make me give an F about a job I don't love. I have to put in the work, too. So part of that is trying to schedule my day so I have some uninterrupted time to do deliverables, use a checklist, set alarms, etc.
Same. Started with 5 mg fast acting Adderall a few months ago. I don't feel the difference any more. I am scared to double the doze .
Thanks everyone for the replies. Had a checkin with my doctor to discuss and she said it’s pretty typical at that dose and moved me up to 15mg XR which is working for me.
