I work at a firm where the owners are racist, sexist etc. I know I'm not liked. I've been trying to get out for almost 8 months with no luck. I feel like I'm stuck here forever. The money also sucks. I've been struggling financially my entire career while all my other friends have big law jobs. The only close friend I related to recently died. Just been feeling very lonely and hopeless.

I started off this way and made my way in house to great people and a great team. When I found the right people to work with it renewed my interest in law and I finally began to enjoy it. Don’t give up.

Same thing happened to me I just quit law went into insurance I’m making good money no stress

like

I feel like the only way I'm ever going to get out of my current situation is by quitting law. Glad it worked for you!

I was where you are two years ago. At a firm where I felt like people didn’t like me and I wasn’t receiving enough work to make my hours. And I was not making big law money either. It took me a year of applying and doing interviews to land at another firm where the people at nice and give me work. I’m learning a lot and getting paid way more. Keep applying, the market is tough but firms are hiring especially the midsized ones.

That’s what the community is for! I’m sorry that you’re going through it at your firm. It’s awesome that you are aware enough and brave enough to find better for yourself. I’ve been through more bad thing than any person triple my age (30s) should have to experience. But there was something beautiful in all of it. If you ever want someone to just listen, feel free to reach out

likehelpful

Working in an environment like that is very damaging to one’s mental health. I hope you are able to leave soon. Can you float yourself for a few months if you quit and take time to recover? You may find yourself interviewing with more optimism once you are out of this dispiriting environment.

Are there temp opportunities that could hold you over? The Posse List and temp recruiters might be able to set you up with short or long term temp work. I believe there are totally remote temp roles though you may need to be barred in specific states.

like

How committed are you to staying in your market? If it’s this bad maybe consider a move out of state.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a friend is tough.

If you feel like you’ll be stuck there forever, you’ll remain there. Set an intention and goal for where you want to be in five years and then work your way back to figure out your next move. It doesn’t matter what your friends are doing, what matters is what you have control over and that’s your life. Network and talk to people who are where you want to be 5-10 years from now, you’ll learn a lot. Keep your head up, you can do anything you set your mind to that you’re willing to work smart for.

like

Getting out of law isn’t a specific goal like what I’m referring to. When I say set intentions I mean something like “be a subject matter expert in consumer protection leading a trial team at a x-sized firm.” Networking is different than using your network. Expand your network and get to know new people where you want to be.

Really sorry you’re going through this and about your friend. Have you tried working with a recruiter to see what else is out there?

like

Aww man. I hope the tide changes for you soon. Then you can look back at these days and laugh

like

Everyone’s journey is different, babe. That’s a way to turn bitter. Good luck on the job hunt you will get a better job soon!

Thanks. I'm not bitter. Just discouraged and lonely as I have no friends to relate to.

Hi! Pretty new to this concept, and really early within my career (only 3 months in). I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

I'm a younger plaintiff's side attorney (31). Does anyone else feel like white attorneys give you a particularly harder time? Like unreasonably denying clear facts, or trying to fish for a way to sanction you? Usually it's solo defense attorneys that get extreme with it, but I've seen some questionable stuff from BigLaw too. Hopefully I'm not the only one.
