I’m already looking into buying outside downtown. Why struggle in a small condo when I can get better outside downtown if the new normal is remote working...
I think this shift to remote work is going to be with us for a long time. I already see clients who are interested in moving out of the city if not out of state. If you only need to be in the office once a week then maybe you move to a place that’s up to 3 or even 4 hours out. If you only have to be in the office once every few months or a couple times a year I think some of those people are going to move out of the area for super cheap areas and just fly in as needed (once we start flying again). People are also going to be buying and selling homes over the next year as they downsize or upsize for the extra space to make working from home easier.
C1 totally with you on this one! I hope it turns that way!
I would love to move out of the city. I would be closure to my customers and would enjoy it more. I do worry though that in the next 5 years or so the pendulum will swing the other way and we will be expected to be in the office again. I guess if you are a stud though it will not matter either way.

I look at the idea of the open office. When I started my career a few years ago everyone had an office and then a few years in i saw that open office gaining strength. Now, I see open areas but specific seating arrangements. I just think a new group of managers could roll in and find data to support their argument that everyone needs to be in the office. If that is there opinon.
Like I mentioned though, if you are rocking you quota you can get away with a lot. It pays to be a winner.
Don’t get me wrong, I love working remote as well. I’d imagine that your question likely depends on whether you have an in person customer-facing role (e.g. PreSales Engineer, or Implementation Consultant) or not. As your customer territory may better dictate where you choose to call home. I don’t imagine that COVID will kill off in-person customer visits indefinitely, despite such visits being less common for the remainder of 2020.
The best thing i ever did was get an agreement from before i started to only working 1-2 days in the office. Im planning to move out to the country at some point.

The biggest question to me is if sales reps will still be required to fly out for enterprise deals, or if conversion rates are high enough to run them remotely.
Solid point ....
