I’m tired of looking at uploaded pictures. Sometimes, I want to be able to see my kids’ algebra work right on the screen, live if possible. Like, real equation solving work with fractions, radicals, exponents, etc.). What are some good platforms, programs, extensions, etc. that allow for students to solve equations, showing all their work, right there on the screen?

I really want to move out of my parents place for social reasons etc. I still hangout with friends a lot but it’s just a hassle having to drive a hour or so to kick it with them. So my dilemma is I enjoy saving $ on rent (yes I know can’t have both) but the main reason for me moving back home is so that I can save and buy a house. On the flip side with how expensive houses are right now it’s hard to even buy. I’m in CA btw SoCal. If anyone has any suggestion of places to live for a 26 YO TIA!

I grew up in a nuclear family away from extended relatives who were never really close. Parents were either emotionally unavailable or distant. All I've wanted for myself was a big loving family to call my own.. my parents are unaccepting of my sexuality & my partners family is also quite fucked up so she's isn't super close to them either. Honestly this sucks & it feels like I'll never have a huge supportive family I've wanted & craved for.

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. My wife and I just had our second child, and we have also been dealing with her cervical cancer diagnosis. It has been a stressful year, to say the least. I want to do something nice for her, but money is tight right now because of the cancer treatment costs, and her being on unpaid leave because of the cancer treatments. Everyone who I want to like me or to hangout with doesn’t respond to my texts or tells me they are too busy. This weekend I reached out to 12 people to see if they wanted to grab coffee or a drink or go for a walk. The number of people who just didn’t respond astounded me. I ended up eating dinner in bed by myself and getting brunch on my own.

I found using GoFormative’s free version to be very helpful in teaching new topics to my students. I embed videos I make demonstrating how to complete a question, next I ask them to complete an example showing work, and then the next question they type their answer so it automatically alerts them to see if they answered correctly. It can be used live in a meet and on an independent virtual day. In my google meets, I’m able to give feedback on any question they have trouble with in real time.

What is the best way you have found to give a test virtually?

My district has finally gone 1-to-1. Is there a good app or website that I could use to have students submit answers anonymously while going over problems in class? I did this last week using Kahoot to go over a state testing review packet. It was great because I could see how many got the right answer and move on if no one missed the question. However, I would like to do it without having to create something in advance. I hope this doesn't sound confusing.

I’m teaching summer school at a high school, and the co-principals have asked me to focus on only 2 to 3 chapters worth (what they are calling “2-3 standards” in the eight days of summer semesters. However, they are also asking me to give kids the midterm and/or final at the end of each period, which covers 4-5 chapters each semester. My question is this: “Is it legal by California Ed code for the administration to ask me to teach less than each entire semester, yet test each whole semester?”

What do you do when you have a student completely freeze and bomb a test? I had a student in class today answer only 2 questions on a test and missed both of those. She was in tears and couldn't finish the test. What do you do in these situations?

Does anyone know a great 7th grade math workbook? Our school system does not buy the students books. I’ve taught 6th grade math for 20 years and have made all my notes, worksheets and and examples, but I’ve been assigned a seventh grade math class and don’t have enough time to get all of that ready. I feel like I’ve spent so much money on Amazon and TPT but it never ends up being what I want. It’s usually too easy. I would be grateful for any ideas, suggestions or actual workbooks names. I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

What would u do in this "hypothetical" scenario.
1. Student gets 95 percentile on standardized tests in 1st grade.
2. 2nd gr teacher, capable and flexible but a little old school.
3. Parent, from foreign country, wants us to teach 2 years ahead of where student is at in math and reading in case they have to return to other country.
4. District's old standard for acceleration is at the 97th+ percentile and other students are much more"advanced".
5. Parent wants detailed steps for teacher's plan

How do you feel like student retention is this year? I feel like I’m reteaching small concepts over and over again.
