To be honest, a lot of people end up in customer support by default when they are in a place where they don't have many other options. The quality of CS as a career depends majorly on the employer and the culture of the company. Some customer service workers are very happy while others feel taken advantage of, and they aren't wrong.

Usually, no experience is required. So you can basically start from scratch. However, it could be draining and exhausting.
Working in customer service is good experience for people going into any career field. Lots of companies like to see you have CS experience because they see you as a "grafter'" and you're used to a standard workplace environment. It's also good for exposing you to people in a way that you can understand them better. The first time a customer is rude to you, it can kind of catch you off guard. But further down the line, it will be helpful if you're ever having to manage a similar situation.
Yes, it's a good one. In terms of pros, it's an industry that encourages good teamwork and builds communication skills. It could be good for somebody with less confidence as it pretty much forces you to speak and interact with people. Finally, it's good for developing mature behavior, for instance, learning how to de-escalate a situation.
