Never too late to be happy. Even one day will make it all worthwhile. Stay strong and follow your heart. Everyone deserves to be happy, alone or married.

Since this is a consulting bowl: the past is a collection of sunk costs. What you have to decide is where to invest your time and energy from here on out. If you are miserable and stay, it is because you believe there is a way to change that with investment. If you move on, I’m sure you can find happiness with commitment of your time and energy. The world is a big and beautiful place and you have a lot of years ahead of you to enjoy them. Good luck. Be brave.

Starting over is scary but from my experience worth it in the long term.

like

Agreed w/over 40 bowl.

D5- I’m a product of parents who ‘stuck it out’ and the relationship model I was raised with was unhealthy. No affection, arguing, distance rather than partnership. Us kids DID come first, so I’m also an adult who has struggled to set boundaries for myself to sleep, workout, and just do things that I appreciate, such as museums. I am not dumb.

Marriages are different, but modeling a healthy ability to have relationships is important for children to see.

like

Kids?

like

If it's beyond repair (and you've tried everything), I would go for it. Listen to your heart but lead with your head.

like

Will join once the 5 bowl limit is lifted

like

Nope. It’s hard but worth it

like

D5 - not everyone who faces/faces this issue has children, so lease refrain from name-calling. Thank you.

like

Ditto

Agree D1

Cut your losses and leave. If there are kids to consider they will thank you in the long run. Being an insider to a miserable marriage is not pleasant and can leave deep scars. Don’t stay “for the kids” and don’t stay for the net worth. You’ll only pay more when you finally do leave.

Blew up my life at 40 and my only regret is how long I put it off, thinking I was too old to start again.

Not at all. You are still young. Don’t worry about it. You deserve to be happy. It may hurt at first but you’ll thank yourself later

It’s not too late

40 bowl created

I called the 40 bowl GenX+ but will change per good consultant feedback

Found it!!!

Lol. I searched by the number “40"

AC1: I feared excluding 39 year olds!

I can’t find it ☹️

Does anyone have family members who constantly demand money because they feel like you’re rich now because you’re a lawyer? I’ve always wanted to be in a position to help my family but we all live in the high COL city so my salary doesn’t carry me as far as it would elsewhere. I’ve given a detailed summary of all of my expenses yet every month one family member in particular comes to me for rent money (not some, the full amount, and they refuse to get a job). It has become quite the burden.

My mom and dad are separating (bad terms) and not speaking, but my mom asks me about him everyday. She knows I don’t want to talk to him or about him, but continues to bring it up everyday.. I’ve resorted to silence or not responding because I always end up being the bad guy when I get annoyed or don’t want to discuss it. Am I wrong here?

Confession: The only in-law that I had a great relationship with passed away unexpectedly. The two remaining in-laws were on thin ice with me prior due to years of drama, nagging, and disgusting display of wealth. I believe their demand of money and general assholish behavior drove in law to his death. I love my S.O. but I can’t deal with the drama anymore.

I want to have a family and a future that is drama-free and full of love and don’t want to surround myself with negativity.

How does a person change their mindset to be more positive? I feel like I’m meant for my job, but blame all my life problems on it….having no energy, being single at the age of 30, etc. and it seems like a never ending loop. I look for new jobs, realize I have a good job then am ok for a bit then start it all over again. When I’m off of work I’m fine and realize I have it pretty good. Only real negative is I can’t vacation with my family in March due to my busy time.

How do I divide the chores in this case? I’m the breadwinner - husband has been taking time off from work. No kids. Two dogs.

I feel like I do more chores because there are some things that I just can’t stand. Like dishes left in the sink, dirty floor, dirty dogs, laundry…etc. When I ask him to do those chores, he says he will do them later but he takes forever. So I do them instead. He does grocery shopping, yard work, some cooking. Is it unfair if I repeatedly ask him to do more? 😡😡

I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.

Hi guys

This question may not be related. However I wanted to know from personal and family point of view how it is like to relocate from India and live abroad .
Let's say Family consists of husband , wife and a kid . I understand we will get good facilities, education, cleanliness , good air etc , however I wanted to check whether people gel up easily in the new environment? Don't they feel loneliness/ difficult to adjust? Do they look for similar asian nationalities to kill boredom?

A question for VCs: I’m currently a VC analyst. I want to eventually come back to the VC industry and perhaps become a partner (if possible). However, there’s an opportunity to work at an Endowment Fund (Harvard/Yale/Stanford level). Would you recommend me to spend the next 3-4 years doing something that’s not directly VC related? Would it be hard for me to come back to the VC industry with this experience? Why or why not? Thank you so much for your time and help!

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
