1. They've to pay for your 'home' flight

@OP - Similar thing happened to me at Deloitte last year. No notice and they just terminated me when I came back from vacation. Totally unexpected and I had not even finished year end review etc. Think business was just dipping in our group.

Anyways I was on a H1B, was looking earlier but ramped by networking very aggressively. Got 3 job offers. The companies usually apply consular visa for which you might get RFE as well. You will have to go out and comeback in (I did it in Mexico).

There is also no said rule about the 60 days. It is a myth cooked up on websites and forums. You can technically and legally stay till date of expiration of your visa, but lawyers usually don't recommend it. This is a very grey area. EY has to give you access to an attorney and a flight ticket back home. Speak to lawyer and strategize best steps. Have all your questions consolidated!

Don't worry too much and trust things will workout. Sometimes these guys are assholes in they way they deal with the employment of people on visas , but we just got to deal with it I guess.

Sorry to hear. But, pick yourself up and move on. Btw; what do you mean "told to leave immediately"? Does EY not provide a transition support?

Severance money has nothing to do with immigration status. Different firms treat severance differently. Still surprised someone was told to leave immediately - unless there's a breach of contract/policy/serious workplace issue; normally one would expect a transition period.

ATK1... standard support...
1. Flight ticket...that I can afford anyway.
2. 1 hour legal support...EY law isn't that helpful from what my colleagues have told me, I'll be looking at other lawyers.
3. Standard transition support to help in my time of 'uncertainty'

And 4 weeks severance.

You can find decent attorneys who will do an initial one-hour session for $200, just to offer advice. Try to find someone in your area who is empathetic to immigrants.

He's a link to definitive guidance. Based on my read, you have two 10 day grace periods. All is not lost. But yeah, get your as to a good immigration lawyers office.

 An alien admitted or otherwise provided status in E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, H-1B1, L-1, O-1 or TN classification and his or her dependents shall not be considered to have failed to maintain nonimmigrant status solely on the basis of a cessation of the employment on which the alien's classification was based, for up to 60 consecutive days or until the end of the authorized validity period, whichever is shorter, once during each authorized validity period. DHS may eliminate or shorten this 60-day period as a matter of discretion. Unless otherwise authorized under 8 CFR 274a.12, the alien may not work during such a period

OP, I had a friend who was let go and got another job 3 months later. He was in the US all that while. In short you don't have 2 days.

Remember OP is on am L-1. Different times than HB-1.

I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work?
