What are parents paying for baby sitters these days? Wife and I going out tonight for about 3-4 hours and have a local college student babysitting our toddler daughter tonight. Low-medium cost of living city and daughter will be asleep for most of the time. We’re thinking $15-20 per hour and make sure there are plenty of snacks around. Appropriate?

Thanks!

$20 in Chicago suburbs and we usually order pizza for them and kids.

$20/hr. is good rate. Have been adding some for gas if sitter is driving from more than 20 miles away.

In Bay Area it’s $30/hour

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

Do you think you and your significant other should have similar personalities? My significant other and I are doing long distance and I feel like when I FaceTime with him, I emote more and show interest by asking more questions but from his end, he doesn’t always have a reaction or just nods, and it makes me feel like he’s uninterested. On his end he sees it as he’s comfortable.

I’m 21F years old and my dad is 55. He recently told me he’s been “talking” with someone who is 25 years old and who went to HS with me (she was a senior when I was a first year). I told him if he goes ahead with this it will ruin our relationship as a father and daughter. I think it’s disgusting how close in age she is with me and my sister.

Am I overreacting?

I had a great first appointment (after an initial fit call) with a new therapist. I thought things went well, and we were scheduled for a second appointment. However, she sent me an email the following day saying that, due to a conflict of interest that she ethically cannot share with me, we would not be a good clinical fit. This kind of feeds like a rug pull breakup and brings up awful feelings of abandonment. Now, I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out what conflict of interest there is….

Need suggestions for how to make cauliflower rice not taste like cauliflower. I love rice, eat it almost once week (significantly cut down from eating it almost every day as a child through college 😅) so switching to cauliflower rice is a challenge since texture and taste wise, I just KNOW it’s not rice. Usually eat it with seasoned chicken and veggies. I like regular cauliflower but for some reason, riced cauliflower has a stronger cauliflower taste for me?

Fourth-year associate. I will soon be commuting to Midtown Manhattan to a firm that pays market. From a financial perspective, am I completely nuts to be driving in and parking? Between tolls and parking, it’s going to be close to $10K a year as opposed to the bus/train being between $2500-$3000 a year. Thing is, bus/rail is pretty reliable in the morning (in terms of availability of options), but if I’m working late service gets dodgy and I like the freedom of having my own vehicle (cont.)
