I had this happen over and over again at my first company. Even to the point where someone said “ah, just the person I was looking for”. ….No, you were looking for the other Black girl. We looked nothing alike.
I get a lot of “Hey…you look exactly like *some random black actor who looks nothing like me*!” Like I’m supposed to be amused by that.
Happens with other races as well. You can either look at it as people who you seldom see are trying to remember your name, or you can get offended. I prefer to think of it as "at least you tried". I'm sure I have unintentionally done it in my lifetime as well.
Its happened to me before and I honestly just let it go. Some things really aren't worth getting upset about. The older I get the more i just let things go and try not to let things upset me.
In would tell them. I had that happen before and I told the person that was a former employee.
People say about me all the time - I’m white. Maybe it’s cos people are generally ignorant, at times.
They do that in your face or over zoom calls etc?
Call it out even with a little humour if it helps it land - I know we’re both X background but I don’t confuse you and bob just because you are Y so please don’t do so to me…
