Experience. I have been trying as someone with a customer service and sales background but have had only 1 interview that lasted on round before they deaded me. You need to be working in tech and handling a book of business for companies to even consider you.

You will need to set your sights on entry level CS jobs like Customer Success Associate and Customer Success Specialist. Instead of talking about the skills that make you good at support, talk about how you built relationships (internally and externally), drove adoption of the products and services you support, and offered truly consultative support in your current role.

Are you able to move to a CSM role at your current company? If that’s not an option, I recommend looking at entry-level CSM positions like those mentioned above, implementation, or something along those lines.
You should be upfront with your management at your current firm. Let them know that you are interested in the CSM role. You might not have to leave the company
