I like to ask about work/life balance, so I can gauge if the interviewer is a better liar than I am.
Yep growth - I also like to know how much interaction I’ll have with the client.
Most important trait they are looking for in the person they are hiring and the usual biggest challenges / opps / areas for growth
When you ask about growth, ask them about specific people. How did the previous person in this position progress from the day the started to the day they decided to leave? Or other people in the similar positions. They could lie/fabricate to you about growth til the cows come home. You need specific examples.
I usually ask what’s there favorite account and why. I’ve gotten so much unfiltered honesty about the agency that way (because they’ll often volunteer their least favorite and why too).
How many hours/week is the team averaging? How many does it take to get headcount? What kind of time/interaction will I get with leadership? Who will I learn from? Who will I teach? What happened to the last person in this role?
How do you see this role interacting with the juniors, various executives as well as the other department leads? (Assess dotted lines, how many messy cross reporting structure I have to deal with)
What’s the biggest problem that you’re trying to solve for this brand/account/biz and how do you think this role will play a part? (Assess what actually is expected to be done since job listings are all boilerplates)
i always ask how the account team is. i want to know that everyone is pursuing the same goals (making great work), not just the creative department.
