When evaluating an offer’s health insurance plan, what are the elements to be considered? Monthly premium pulled from my paycheck, annual deductible or copay. Is there anything else to keep in mind? As much description as possible is helpful as I’m very early in my career and BCG had a very simple $5 copay on everything in network policy.

Out of pocket max

like

That’s correct.
- Up to the deductible - you pay all of it
- Over the deductible but under the out of pocket max - this is the “coinsurance” part where they pay most but you still pay some
- Over the out of pocket max - they pay all of it

like

Some questions to ask: - What is the annual out of pocket max? - Do you have just in-network coverage or also out of network? If it’s only in-network, check to make sure your current doctors take this insurance. - Is it a gated or a non-gated plan? ‘Gated’ means that you need to select a pcp and get a referral for specialists.

like

Thank you for the tactical questions!

Also ask if the plan covers therapists etc. - many plans, even the good ones, don't typically cover most non-traditional medical providers.

like

Look for a high deductible plan with an HSA (not FSA) bc you can also contribute pretax to your HSA and grow a retirement medical fund. Employers will usually contribute a fixed amount per year to your HSA. You can also dip into your HSA all you want pre-retirement to pay doctors bills and rx costs, but if you can avoid using it all the better for an emergency fund!

One of the sneaky good perks is gym reimbursement, especially if you’re healthy this can be a several $100 benefit

Any anticipated medical needs that are out of the norm? I'd ask what what fertility coverage is since that cam vary widely and can come into play

No, I’ve been relatively healthy and hardly use my current benefits but I’m getting married next year and my fiancée has some prescriptions.

Good thought on the fertility - I’ll be sure to ask about that.

These are all great pieces of advice - thank you all!

Anyone else take xanax? I usually only do like 2x a week.

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

I'm 1 year out of college and recently inherited $400k and have another $120k saved up from internships and work.

I know the standard thing to do is DCA into an index fund/ETF but is there anything else I should be doing to invest my money and hedge against inflation. I'm just concerned with the political turmoil going on and trying to figure out what ETFs I should be investing in and how much I should be putting in every week.

How would you recommend investing the money?
