I am so lost. Feeling stuck in a role I don’t enjoy, yet no idea what I actually want to do. I know I don’t want to keep chasing the next “job.” Help.

Is two years too little to stay at an agency at the VP level?

I’m considering moving on to take an equity role with a friend’s agency startup, but if it fails I worry two years at my current (well-regarded, on the rise agency) is too short a tenure to look good on a CV. Previous role I was only in six months but left to relocate countries; was in a role five years before that. Cause for concern?

I applied to an in-house job on Wednesday (5/26) with an internal referral. Haven’t heard anything yet. How long should they take to get back to me if they’re interested? A week feels long, but maybe in-house moves slower? Am I wrong to assume they’ll give me some kind of reply because I was referred?

Does anyone have any advice about applying for Account Executive roles at large companies? I’m currently in my first job after college, was promoted from junior AE to AE, and am looking to make the move to NYC. Any advice on how to set myself apart or prepare for interviews for these roles would be so appreciated! Got approached by another agency (media) regarding a Director role. Somewhat nice client and benefits +30%, but when the offer came, salary and responsibility were as discussed but title downgraded to Associate Director.

Hiring manager told me he got pushback against my years of experience, but they still went ahead with salary and task description of a director. Should I consider it?

I am currently working at an agency in Europe, they pay well for a junior position compare to other places and have a good work-life balance culture. They are not very well known though. Recently I got an offer from a big agency in the US. I love their work and everything but I don't like the city where they are. My ultimate goal is to move to the US but not that city. They make great work, no work-life but I'd learn a lot for sure. What should I do?

I graduated a few weeks ago and accepted a role for an art direction internship at a good agency but not somewhere I love. They only gave me a day to sign the offer letter, so I did because I didn’t have other immediate options. But a few days later an agency I love reached out to me about a Jr. AD opening. I’ve now done 4 interviews and have another call next week. How bad will it be to pull out of the internship right as it’s starting if I get this offer for a full time job?

I was approached by a firm after 6 months in my current role and is offering about $10-15K more than my current role. My gut is to take it but it will be my third role in a year (had to move due to covid) and scared I will look like an job hopper. I’m looking to move and need the money. Been on a long freelance contract at an agency. Took a much lower hourly rate with the promise of converting to FT staff after 3 months. Been interviewing and networking nonstop for the past few months. Doing everything right, even getting reached out to by recruiters which has never happened before. Nailing every interview, ECDs telling me things like “you’re the best candidate we’ve interviewed” and complimenting/agreeing with me on everything I say. Being told Im a shoe in and to hang tight while we interview others then getting turned down for the role. I WANT TO SCREAM!! What do I do? I’m miserable at my current agency.

I got a verbal offer from a WPP agency today. The role's budgeted salary is 5k less than my desired salary.
The recruiter can get me closer but still not at my desired salary. Otherwise - it would have to go through a long approval process with no guarantee that the salary would even be OK'd.
I'm coming from a small agency, so I could be wrong - but I don't want to sell myself short by accepting the first salary they offer. Do I have any room to negotiate? Or is that risky?

Met with a CCO for a role on a notoriously “challenging” account. Thirty minute Zoom, nothing in-depth. A few days later the recruiter emails like “Great news. We’ve talked to many people but they’d like to make an offer to you!” I’m thinking to myself, it was a 30 minute call, I’ve never met my direct manager, potential partner(s), etc...So these guys are just desperate to fill this role, right?

How do you approach high turnover in a specific role?

I just moved teams within my agency, and had the jarring realization that every single person on the day-to-day business (across account, strategy, and creative, 12+ ppl) is white. I am also white.

I’m getting the chance to hire somebody new for the team. Hopefully you can see where I’m going with this: how do I talk to HR - who clearly does not recognize this is a thing, or doesn’t consider it a problem - about the need to find some POC candidates for this role and in general?

Despite proving ourselves as more than capable of WFH, agencies will try to force us back to the old ways. Do not budge. If enough of us refuse, they must accept a hybrid model.

Hybrid models are supported by the same finance jerks who gave us open offices and hotdesking. They also know hiring new talent is expensive—pointless even, if most of the labor force demands WFH. We have the upper hand here.

Agencies need to adapt, not us.

It seems like the hiring trend is to let people work remotely rather than relocate. When you take a job like this, are the agencies upfront about saying they might ask you to move as things return to normal?

I’m heading to a luncheon with my team & Senior Management. It’s actually at a restaurant and in person. I’ll be meeting my team for the first time. Yet, I’ve been in this role for 14 months now.
