My 2 cents. Is it fair that the decision makers on policies such as wfh have partners and kids and are likely going to see more benefits in their personal lives as compared to those who are freshly coming into the industry and have a massive task of overcoming barriers to make meaningful connections? They say it takes 6 months to become productive in a new firm. I wonder if that will change especially if your firm relies on networks to make you productive. Networks don't spawn on zoom calls.

Does anyone here use legal zoom? My local attorneys are so expensive (I’m scared to send them an email) and wondering if I should use services like legal zoom for reviewing contracts - property management, leases etc. Any suggestions to find someone good and reasonable for long term (DM me with referrals pls)?

How do you set personal boundaries? One of my colleague is new to the team, so I understand she may be struggling at times to get up to speed. But she is constantly asking me to get on Zoom after work hours (8-9 pm) to walk her through stuff. Even when I told her I’m out busy, she would keep asking when would I get home so I can jump on a meeting with her.

Added some wine to my seltzer in preparation for the last Zoom of the day. No one will be able to tell, right? 😎

Any recommendations for affordable zoom camera?

I'm the only one that doesn't have some Zoom background set up, but I hate those things, they weird me out. Is it uncomfortable though that everyone can see my house and I can't see theirs?

I’ve got a file saved to Microsoft Teams (SharePoint on the backend) that I want multiple parties to be able to access and edit. Unfortunately, it keeps locking me out for edits, saying that the file is in use by someone else! Whether that’s true or not, it would be nearly impossible for me to track the person down and kick them out (it is a user external to my organization). Any ideas on how to disable check out for this file, or otherwise keep it accessible and editable to everyone? Thank you!

Have any of the MBB firms changed how they do work? As in, traditionally used shared drives and office products / analytics programs, but have moved to MS Teams or Slack based file sharing, coauthoring, etc.

If so, how did that go?

Do you all rate yourselves higher than you maybe deserve when it comes to self evals? I tend to be highly critical of myself/suffer from imposter syndrome a bit but also realize I can lack motivation/slack off at times. Not sure if I should try to oversell myself a bit or be honest. For reference, my company’s rating scale is out of 5 with 3 being performs jobs well and 4 and 5 exceeding. Going back and forth between 3 and 4.

4+ months sober. I do zoom AA every day but this was the first time I shared as a newcomer. I have some phone numbers from the group and hoping to get a sponsor soon. I plan to be sober 1 year before I can think of doing the steps. I read Living Sober and The Big Book every day in addition to prayer and mindful meditation. But would love to chat with someone “telephone therapy” can be something like Discord or WhatsApp.

Fish, how do you deal with friends and family members who have anxiety? Someone dear in my life has struggled with it all his life, but unfortunately it frequently leads to (for lack of a better word) a lot of dickish and controlling behavior. How much slack do you cut someone when you know this is a disorder they suffer from? (I should add that this person is both keenly aware of their disorder and stubbornly refuses to get treatment).

Finally had a breakdown over infertility this AM and trying to pull myself together for Zoom. My tests are fine, but husband can’t deliver during my fertile window. I feel so hopeless with every month that goes by, and he doesn’t have any sense of urgency when HE is the one who wants kids more than I do. Just needed to vent.

Hi Excel pros! I’m stumped and appreciate your help in advance. My team is leading Webex meetings with 100+ participants. I’d like to collect the participants’ email addresses to send follow-ups - but want to collect these email addresses in a clean format that can be easily input into excel. We run a VBA script contingent on that. Asking for emails in the chat box isn’t working (too many participants, formatting is messy). What do you recommend? Was thinking Webex poll. Would love your input.

Anybody have both Slack and Teams deployed? Everyone on both? Some on one others on the other? Software to integrate them?

Has anyone conducted assessments for online meeting services that included of Zoom versus Teams, WebEx and others. Interested in learning if Zoom's past security issues negatively influenced the business decision away from selecting Zoom.

What’s your go to filler for when you are waiting for someone to join the zoom?

What do you guys do with your video conference backgrounds? I used to be in a team where we only do audio. The new mgr seems to prefer video. My background is plain door I am not that comfortable sharing other parts of my home because my husband sometimes walks around half naked(1b1b in NYC). Plus I do not like how I look on the Skype video, and don’t prefer heavy make ups while I am at home. Can I just not turn on camera unless needed? Our firm actually discourage video for bandwidth reason.

I’m exhausted from being accessible to so many people via so many different platforms. 4-6 hours of “camera on” zooms a day + a barrage of phone calls and texts + DMs on all the different social media platforms + slack + email... i have friends who will DM me on IG while texting me, carrying on two completely different conversations. I miss having time alone with my thoughts 😂

Anyone else finding they have no time to eat all day, every day of week because of Zoom calls snd work and surprise let’s regroup calls that are nonstop?

Hey Fishes - anyone know of any studies that show the thresholds for achieving “Zoom” fatigue? I’m wondering if there is a consecutive hours of video calls or hours per week metric that is considered a marker for negative return. Or if a study is not available what would a crowdsourced estimate be?

My mac keeps randomly crashing and taking a half an hour to boot. Case Interview is Friday (zoom video) - should I buy a new laptop??

I just had one of the worst melt down in my life (to the point I srsly thought about self-harm) and thinking maybe I need to step away for two days to recover. I have a client that files on Thursday so the ddl is coming up. I’m thinking of trying to push through my task today and asking for Monday and Tuesday off. Does that sound reasonable? I’m just a staff and I don’t know how to properly communicate this to senior and manager without sounding like I’m trying to slack

Are beards acceptable for zoom job interviews or is clean shaven still best practice? Have an interview coming up this week and like having a beard because I look so young without it.

Tips on Zoom interviews? What’s the best way to come across engaged? For cases, do you show your notes/structure, or do you just have to be more articulate and make sure the interviewer is following along with words only?
