Unless you’re overweight or chronically dehydrated you’ll be fine drinking normally - they give those guidelines because most people fall into one of the buckets I mentioned. I drink plenty of water normally and whenever I’ve followed that guidance for ultrasounds I’ve been chided for having a too-full bladder and been told to use the restroom first 🤔
Every time they asked me to do this, baby was so squished that they asked me to pee before continuing the US 🤷🏼♀️
I ended up doing a half pee right before the scan (lol) because I couldn't hold it in. It was hard not to completely empty my bladder but I was a lot more comfortable during the scan and they were able to see the baby really well. From above responses seems like it may have been fine but yah, didn't know that and I didn't like the idea of a transvaginal ultrasound (for comfort reasons, not anything medical) so I didn't want to take the chance.
Thanks all! My appointment is in the morning so obviously I’ll need to drink something to fill up my bladder but thinking I’ll cut it back
I once forgot and peed right before jumping into the car, I grabbed a water bottle 32 oz and drank it on my way to the ultrasound 15 min away. I was good to go by the time I got there. They will see what they need to see. Don’t stress about it.

And if they do need more volume in your bladder-
There is a very simple way to do that involving the drinking fountain & about 30 minutes. Not the end of the world
I didn’t need a full bladder for my 8 week scan, just the 12 (or 14?).
