So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Schadenfreude is a perfectly natural human response to karma.
Don’t listen to the self-righteous people in this thread, OP.
Of course you need to devote energy to yourself and your own progress. Of course you should not wish harm on others. And sure, maybe these negative thoughts you have about others will come back in some big, karmic, way.
You know that. But you’re also human. We can try to take the high road all we want but ultimately we’ve all had people who made our lives completely miserable, and our work toxic and unbearable. I don’t know your exact situation, but I empathize. Congrats on getting that satisfaction and sweet, sweet justice. Things don’t always work out that way.
And they end up in a small private start up out of desperation with mostly equity based pay which ends up going public in an year making them a multi millionaire.
True story ....

A4, I actually agree. OP is a narcissist though it seems. I also did enjoy pointing out how these “victories” often become a defeat from a comparison standpoint given how often the next job people have is better than the last. (I myself am frequently in underdog situations in various areas of life, only to come out ahead repeatedly.)
Don’t pray on others downfall.
A2 Freedom is that you?
A little unsolicited advice, just keep focusing energy on building yourself up.
Rejoicing in someone’s hardships... no matter what they’ve done to you... is really just a distraction from your personal/professional goals. Don’t give anyone power over your trajectory.
It’s a business. Not a popularity contest or somewhere to make friends. Also... wishing others ill, will always come back to bite you.
Audrey Plaza, is that you?
You seem to be bitter and holding on to a grudge
Word I was looking for was ego
The number of people trying to be wise in this thread is amazing. Truth is if someone screws your over and gets fired you would be happy too.
Be the bigger person, learn to forgive and like others no matter what they have done to you. You will realize how peaceful you feel and able to focus on yourself and succeed. You may get a real promotion than feeling like a promotion at someone's failure.
If they have done bad to you then its their karma, but if that is making you happy instead of empathizing with them, then that karma will come to bite you too.
Focus on yourself!
Forgive an aggressor? I don't think so. If anything, I should start an urban legend and build it into leadership training curriculums
You do not know your future , what is in store for you. Just be mature. Maybe he hated you too. And maybe you were the bad one here. This is your side of the story. You are also swimming in hate pool and of course you a tree not a happy person. You do not know what in store for him in the future. Make less enemies. Improve yourself so you can make less enemies and hate less.

A4, while I’ve been arguing with OP a lot, I actually completely agree with you, and relate to your experience as well.
I too have felt catharsis that an a-hole seemed to be getting screwed over at work, just don’t like the overconfidence of some of the kids. It reminds me of some kids I have worked with, pet peeve of mine.
So much negativity here, but I am totally with you! In all the big firms there's a subset of people who get away with mistreating others and being total jerks because they somehow do manage to keep bringing in the money. So nice to finally see them get their due when it happens.

I’ve been the one where gets fired, and I’m sure someone at the firm despised me and is so happy. Then I always just go get a much better job with a giant raise and anyone in your spot still (the person not fired still at old firm) I kind of just look down on them for having a relatively lowly job compared to my new one, which is kind of ironic. (Not you specifically, you have a better job than I even have now probably, just saying generally speaking when it’s happened to me, if that makes sense)
What would Deepak have to say about this?
It's not hate it's rejoice
