Just breathe. You’ll be okay.
Communicate with your boss and whoever is training you. No one wants you to fail (even from their own self-interested perspective it’s not a good look if you do and they were responsible for you so they are invested in your success). Also remember everyone was new once but we sometimes forget how long it can take to get up to speed. So, again, breathe, and calmly communicate your hurdles to your manager.
As for the discomfort part, that’s how growth feels. If you only stay where you are comfortable you will likely stagnate and the world will eventually pass you by. You might be fine with that, or have health concerns where low stress is higher priority than career trajectory. If so, do what is best for your well-being. But if it’s just fear and self doubt talking, face it, or you’ll always be running the rest of your life.
If you decide to bring up your concern with your new manager, first clarify their expectations and then work together on how to learn what you need to to deliver. If need be, ask if the deadlines are firm or can be adjusted, if anyone can help walk you through the process as you get up to speed, or what the order of priority is if you’re juggling multiple asks.
(Also also, consider reading The First 90 Days). Good luck & congrats on the new job. :)
Thank you so much again, PRO! I hope you are doing great! Have a wonderful weekend!
And you’re only day 3! Give yourself some grace! 😍
Get clarity around expectations. How is your boss defining success? How are you defining success? It’s important to be on the same page with your manager, team, project scope, objectives, etc., so you’re not struggling silently. These need to align. And if it’s not feasible, then discuss resource allocation. Can you get help? More time? Guidance on priorities? (You know that saying: “You can get it fast, cheap or good. Pick two.”)
Small wins are still wins. You’re human, not a machine. And that means you won’t be perfect. None of us are. But you’ll get more skill every day.
Breathe. Find lightness, where possible. And stay present. Fears live in the future, in the Land of the What Ifs. But that’s not reality. Regrets live in the past. But you can’t get do overs. So, start where you are. Peace is in the now. Be gentle on yourself even as you strive for excellence. Good luck!
This was so helpful. Thank you so much, Strategist 1. I’m happy to say it is getting better. Thank you for the reminder to stay present. I appreciate it!!!
You got this! I accepted a new position in commercial, most of my experience was on the consumer side ( wealth Management). Huge learning curve plus learning virtually. Don’t forget to make connections, don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’re in the right place this is where you learn, and good job not settling in your comfort zone!
Connect with your team! 😊 also anything you feel lost on if you can do your own research first join a group or take a class. The opportunities are endless! Let your light shine! 😍
