Rising Star
When I was in Atlanta I dreamed of buying a place in Virginia Highlands.
No traffic access to midtown, beautiful neighborhood, lots of biking, great schools. I had to move before I was ready to buy.
This is where I’m planning to buy. It’s an incredible area—even moreso with the development of the beltline nearby.
Buckhead! Good shopping and safe, also close to banks/businesses
Too scared to live in Buckhead? Lmao
I am a real estate agent in Atlanta that has worked with clients all over. Feel free to DM me
Virginia Highland. Two incomes. Always wanted to live here and it has been nice during the pandemic with the neighborhood even more alive than usual.
Johns Creek. Great place to raise kids - parks, great public schools, lots of outgoing neighborhoods, and prices are much better than buckhead. Milton is another great option.
Dunwoody. All the same reasons as Johns Creek except closer to the city so less of a commute. To be fair I may move to Johns Creek once the kids are out of elementary school.

Have a friend in Roswell that loves it. Just a little far is all
Roswell is awesome if you’re within walking distance to downtown. Still great otherwise
Candler Park - things to walk to, neighbors are awesome, good schools, just love the vibe. Lots of young families and singles. Similar to Virgina Highland but a tad less expensive. It’s close to everything in town but the closer you get to Little 5, the edgier things get. We have a double income family and a little one. Every neighborhood in Atlanta is different, just depends what you want to be close to and what you value most - space for less, swim/tennis type communities, look outside the perimeter; less traffic and closer to things like festivals (if they ever come back!), look inside.
We’ve been here about 3 years and we love it so much! Of course it’s an older neighborhood so the houses (if not updated) may be built in the 30s and 40s but we love older homes. The land trust is cool and there are community gardens to visit, one has chickens and goats, etc. The Frazer forest is 40 acres of trees in the neighborhood with trails and is fun to explore also. It’s a funky place with a lot of friendly people! Not sure where the school boundaries are but we are zoned for Lin elementary which is apparently a great school that all the neighbors love.
OP are you looking for in the perimeter or out of it? That will change drastically the responses you receive and price you're looking at
The perimeter is the circle of I-285 that encompasses ATL so that would be any neighborhood in that circle ie Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur, Inman Park, O4W, Chamblee, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown those kind of true-Atlanta neighborhoods. Depending on what part of Sandy Springs you’re looking at, you’re probably out of the perimeter which means your housing/cost of living will be lower/more affordable but will be more “suburban”
Adair park. 2x income. It’s changing a lot but we still have ‘rough’ moments.
Agree with D1. Also need to factor in kids schools. We came close to moving to Brookhaven years back but with multiple kids it would have meant years of private schools. So we went to JC where the public schools are top notch. Saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars.
