I went back to school last year. My employer knows this. I am currently off on a 8 week LOA to care for a child having surgery.
I had a job offer drop into my lap and am very interested in taking it. The new place is supportive of my need to care for my kid at this time and is looking at a flexible day including a lot of WFH options.
Is it acceptable to start new place while on LOA from my current job? I want to be sure it's a good fit before I give notice.

As a parent, do you ever feel like you get to turn it off? All we do is take care of people. I'm not begrudging my career choice or my babies, I just feel burnt out on giving so much to everyone else.

Have you ever split your maternity leave?
I’m having a baby in March and my family is visiting Japan in July. It’s the first time that my family had been able to go since 2016 because I was in the military and then COVID happened.

Was going to try and split my leave 10 weeks when baby is born and 8 weeks starting when we leave in July.

Last December, my mom said I needed to check myself into a mental hospital. It was a deliberate attempt to hurt, she knew I was getting help and not at risk.

We've had little contact this year but I feel intense guilt about her not seeing her grandkid much. Im learning about our intergenerational trauma and how to set better boundaries. She continually violates them. She sends texts to say I'm "mean" and "ruining the holidays".

Does the guilt go away? Do you go no contact, kid included?

Need some advice. My relationship with my parents hasn’t always been the greatest. I supported them financially (along with some younger siblings) until I got married and moved away. They resent me for moving on from them but since I had my daughter, my mother has been sending handmade gifts and calling to check on my kid. My first experience with a Karen today. I was sitting today in my front yard with my pitbull leashed to a tree. This woman stopped in front of my house and said - as per city ordinance it’s illegal to leash dogs in the front yard and I need to hold the leash and I kid you not threatened to call cops on me. How to deal with a father who lacks empathy? Essentially I didn’t like how he treated my mom growing up (always arguing) and when they ultimately separated and divorced in my young adult years, I took her side. He has tried to communicate with me throughout that time and I would tell him this but he just doesn’t get it and would focus on other issues so I ultimately blocked him from my life the last 5 years.
