This is such a hard thing to navigate. I think I got kinda lucky finding mine. I asked around a little to people I trusted for recommendations. I looked at who my insurance covered and thought some about scheduling. I also thought quite a bit about what I wanted from a therapist and looked around a bit online. Then I made an appointment and got to know a little about what the therapist thought, knowing I would change if there appeared to be conflict, as I did not need resistance in any more areas of my life. I did not have to change and have been my therapist for almost 2 years. I would say the hardest part was me thinking and overthinking how hard it would be. Just intentionally jump in. You are the one in control and can change at any time. The hardest step is truly the first one.
I went onto psychology today and filtered through with what I would like in my therapist (theories of expertise, language, gender, issues they most commonly deal with). Some therapists even have video introductions. You can then reach out with a message and they will email you to discuss if you are the right fit for each other.
Finding the right therapist for you is very important. Good luck in your search and mental health journey
