How does one get into the corporate area of law if one doesn’t have direct relevant experience (have Trust/Estates experience). Been difficult trying to find a job in the current market

I’m in my 4th year at a small plaintiffs’ firm. Past two years I’ve received meager raises (5k) and terrible bonuses (3k). My boss prides himself on allowing me to gain experience so I have more courtroom experience than most attorneys with twice the experience. As I’ve applied for other firms, I’ve been denied interviews based on how my boss is perceived in the community. I’ve gathered professional references from opposing attorneys and other attorneys we work with but still can’t land. Help

Struggling with imposter syndrome here. Over the past five years at my employer I went from independent contributor as a developer to a more of a Leadership position. what I’m finding though is that I don’t get nearly the kudos or mentions that I used to as an IC. I often wonder if I’m doing a good job or if I’m failing I tend to overthink and read into peoples life interactions. is this common as you enter leadership? Any tips to maintain confidence? Considering an in-house position at a firm client (firm is not aware of my interest), and I have worked directly with the AGC that would be my supervisor. Thoughts on reaching out to the AGC directly to convey interest?

Just venting here… At WAS for an adjustment interview based on an affirmative asylum and the officer said he’s never done and affirmative adjustment before… and questioned my client when he said that he has never been in proceedings. Officer said “I don’t agree with that, I think you *have* been in proceedings” when we submitted the affirmative asylum approval and I had to show that to him smh. Why aren’t they training these officers 😭

I recently left the gov’t for private practice with a M&A group. How does everyone bill when you are thinking about how to structure it and what docs need to get drafted? I’m learning that billing is an art so any canned language would be great!

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.

(First year if you can’t tell) if a contract has a date in the preamble and a separate effective date, which do you use for purposes of say scheduling contracts?

My boss is asking me to “reconsider” the way I approach a client… I am in charge of this annoying corporate maintenance thing that we do for a client (I.e., making board of directors meeting to comply with some regulatory reporting required. I always end up missing deadlines. How would you reply?
