If you have to think about work after hours, I suggest doing something active like going to the gym, hiking or engaging in a craft. Your body moving will allow for more constructive reflection.
To completely disengage from work, maybe hang out with some friends or at least converse with others at some sort of event. Personally, having to engage with people at a cooking class, volunteer activity or even talking football with a stranger at a sports bar helps because I have to actually direct my attention to another person.
Meditation helps when I am ruminating over work. Actually it just helps with life, stress and happiness but especially with letting go of things that are out of your control.
I practice TM and it cuts through the bullshit
No good deed goes unpunished in sales/support. I’ve just learned to make sure I keep myself and my team accountable….but also the client. They have obligations too. If they don’t fall in line, then it’s not a relationship that can be saved. I wash my hands of it then. I hope that advice helps!
Thank you everyone, I definitely feel that I'm not alone in this. Got a good workout in, cooked for the next couple days, and prepped some emails to auto send Monday morning.
You must compartmentalize and defend your personal time. No one else will and it’s your life. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it is unavoidable to work late and weekends in this industry, but try to minimize it. When Monday comes, buckle up and hit the pedal with as much confidence as you can muster. You’ll get it done.
At the end of the day, it is just work. Get it done as much as you can and don’t think about it in your personal time. We need to reset our heads otherwise you will get tired easily.
Anxiety of what is to come on Monday had been my burden for a long time. I understand this all to well, the best advice is knowing that the company's position on the matter is not your fault. You make the decisions, true, based on the information you was given.
It doesn't lessen the concern you have for Monday, just know your not alone and it's not your fault. Have to approach Monday lke "Joe Friday", just the facts! So as long as you have all the data you need to say what you need to. That's all you can do, worrying doesn't get your boss to pay you more, and it doesn't solve anything but cause health issues. So take rest in knowing you did your best, and go for a walk and focus on life around you to get your mind off of it!
Just enjoy the moment. If you know that there's a headache waiting on Monday don't give yourself one know thinking about it.
Do something that you like. Invite friends over, go out, have fun, whatever you can to keep you in the present moment
Learning to turn work off in your brain when you leave work is an underrated ability.
