Hi everyone. A PDM specialist here. Joined Deloitte 5+ years back as ‘Senior Solution Engineer -On-site’.Later in June 2017 all these ‘on-site’ folks got rebranded as PDM. Slowly started to realize how PDM is getting sidelined as a ‘discountable’ group. Sometimes I feel contract jobs are better than being at PDM , but obviously tied up with D for visa related issues. No career progression so far and don’t see any positive changes in the near future as well.I think it’s high time to call it a day.

WLB at startup is not making any sense. Been there done that couple times. Take a PM job. I don't think for you to become a PM you have to be an extrovert. There are two different kind of stress ... Stress talking to large audience or stress of high pressure from the job. I could be wrong but I think the fear from verbal communication can be compensated from writing (article, document) because you can be very expressive in writing as well. You work at Amazon, you know how important it is.
Would take product, at least you know what you’re going into + more comp. I wouldn’t count on WLB at a start up
I would take the time one that has more prospects. TC is great but I would prefer having sanity over TC. Just speaking from my experience.🤷♂️🤷♂️
The TC is around 40k less at the start-up btw.
Both companies had people I really enjoyed working with and WLB there apparently is good for both.
I am coming from a prior role where I have been burnt out. I lowkey want a less stressful role which I don't need to worry as much and that's why being a Data analyst was super attractive.
However, I am leaning on the PM role for the reasons above
also assume i have interviews with other big & small tech companies just in case
It depends what your current role is. These 2 roles don’t sound like the same level to me. Product Manager responsibility is greater than Data analyst. Also, what is your comfort level in the product at that company? Try to avoid a lateral or downward move. The rest of us techies get it, but the HR types think you took a demotion. It makes it hard to get your foot into the door on the next one, when you are ready.
