McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

If the external offer is something you’re interested in, I wouldn’t worry about leaving so quickly. I would just try and not get into a situation where you take the external offer and then want to leave quickly again.
HCS ironically. AWS and Azure. I’m told no accounts can sustain a B10 and GTM is saturated. Why did they hire me then 🙃
Take the offer and leave ibm out of your resume
In this case 3 months could easily be a break to reflect or travel etc. my friend has a 1y gap before business school to travel and go on yoga retreats lol. Don’t lie but you can leave it out without anyone wondering
It’s pretty normal for very slow integration into the company. Band 10 is certainly one of the toughest positions as well. You won’t be fired or anything—learn the organization, network and your utilization will pick up in time.
3 months feels glacial, especially when I’m in an area that IBM claims they’re investing in/growing in. At my last firm I had no trouble integrating as an external.
What level does band 10 align with at IBM? Manager, SM, etc.
Chief
Its Associate Partner
OP I’m sorry you are having this experience. have you talked with your Practice Partner about your concern? If you’re in any Cloud practice then you should be quite busy as there is a lot of demand. At Band 10 you should also be developing new business. If you want to DM me I can help you find the right assignment in IBM to be busy. My industries are growing over 35% y-y so there is definitely demand.
Yes I have talked to the practice leadership and I’ve gotten a lot of lip service. If I’m being honest I’m leaning toward taking the other offer because this feels unacceptable. I’m URM too, so having this experience feels doubly bad. I just don’t want to be fired before I have the chance to negotiate my exit. You don’t think they would fire me, do you?

Hey op I’m in the same bucket as you but I am at band 9 and on two engagements. But, there’s hardly 10-15 hours of work in the best of times.
So, I’ve reached out to a few practice leads to launch a couple of service lines which keeps my days interesting. If all goes well, I’m planning to push to get a patent. If that’s a route you’d be interested in, DM me and I can put you in touch with people I know
Could you elaborate " I've seen alot of things that arent positive"
