I’m at a crossroads with 3 job offers fresh out of uni:
1. Risk Consulting at International Firm: Global prestige, great network, but not in data analytics.
2. Data Analytics at Local Firm: Aligned with my career goal but limited global exposure.
3. Internship in Data Analytics at Multinational: Dream job/company but no guaranteed role after.

My goal is a data analytics career at a large company. Do I prioritize prestige, relevant tasks, or take a gamble on the internship? Advice appreciated!

I would ask what does your gut tell you? If your career goal is a Data Analytics career start with that offer. You can only build up from there. Remember, it's not a race it's a marathon. You may be starting local with the data analyst offer now but you can always scale up with that experience and go after a job at a more prestigious company with that experience. look at it as a stepping stone to get to the company you really want to get into

smart

It is like getting into an elevator. The visibility that is local are the lower floors. The visibility at larger corporations that have wider scope is like getting an opportunity to view data from the top floor. The larger corporations have elevators that could take you to more floors below that smaller corporations won’t.
This analogy is limited to just your situation and is biased by my experience. Ask yourself and follow your gut feeling as at the end of the day, you are also choosing a manager and a team.

What is your secret I don’t have any job offers and running out of money

Take a look at where the bottleneck is. As a business student, I compare the job application process to the customer journey.

If you are struggling to get responses, adapt cover letter more for every application. And apply to a LOT of positions. Also, make sure your CV is ATS readable. There are websites to test that.

If you are struggling to get past interviews, linkedin has amazing practice questions, and write down an answer to every question to really think them through. Also, it is SO important to ask good questions. Write them down and take them with you to the interview.

Then, and this is a bit of a wierd one, recognise that this is a 2-sided process. The recruiter is also actively looking for someone to fill the vacancy. Let them want to WANT you. Try to come across eager by not desperate. Examples would be: not setting linkedin profile to open to work publicly but only open for recruiters, if they ask if you have other application processes in progress ALWAYS SAY YES you don't have to give a name, just say it's a local company.

Lastly, interject some personality in the interview, when introducing yourself talk end with your favorite hobby. And try not to talk like a robot🤖

Internship. You are young to after big goals!

Unpopular opinion but don’t take the internship. I also work for an MNC but there are hiring freezes, re-orgs etc. The gamble isn’t worth it. It seems like global exposure is important for you and I would also no one says no to a big brand moving to a small brand but the converse isn’t always true. So, I would go for 1. Lastly, internship no matter how prestigious doesn’t actually put you in a position of ownership or accountability as a job would (at least that’s how an HR would look at it - who looks at your resume only). Take #1- get experience and jump ship to dream job when the time is right.

Some good perspectives here, but I'll also add my own.

An internship in your chosen field at a dream company could be incredible, but what you get out of if and what is usable as a spring board for your next role is hugely important in weighing against actual jobs.

Internships in many parts of the world remain a mixed bag from those I speak with; everything from lower value administrative focus to leaders not having/making the time to get maximum mutual value out of it and everything in between.

The key in weighing the internship is what does the company commit to investing into you (i.e., will you receive a full investment of training and onboarding, what can you expect as a learning path over the course of the internship), and what projects and value-driving experience can they commit to? Internships can sometimes be viewed as a "step down" in terms of value of experience than an actual job unless you can clearly articulate the work was to drive business results (and were able to see it realized and quantified).

The 3rd is definitely the least "safe" but with the right mutual understanding and agreement of how the time will be spent and how marketable that will be afterwards (if not offered a role), it does have the highest potential to springboard in your chosen career. Good luck.

Take your time

I am looking into the CCP (Certified Compensation Professional). It seems to be quite an expensive exam.

If anyone else is studying, let me know and maybe we can share study materials!

For those who have taken it, are there any cheaper or alternative study materials to any official guides you would recommend? I went this route with the PHR and SHRM-SCP and passed each on the both try, so I wanted to see if that method may be viable here. Any recommended order to take courses in?

Hey All,
I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.
