Hi folks, how is thoughtworks as an organisation?
Asking because I don't know much about it and have received recruiter's call today. Currently I am working in Deloitte. How is thoughtworks hikes, wlb, does it provide any benefits apart from fixed pay? My research gives me a mixed review: some say it's good, some say that thoughtworks is not stable enough like big 4 or other organisations. Pls help Thoughtworks Deloitte

Restarting your network is tough and in an economic slowdown you will have a target on your back with no network to to go to bat for you. In the long run your comp will level out, if your happy at Deloitte is probably not move just for short term comp but do you
I’ve been rewatching Breaking Bad, and there’s a scene that comes to mind in which Mike says to Walter something along the lines of, “we had a good thing going, everything worked, and you had to go blow it up for your ego.” If your current situation works, why mess with it (particularly now when there is so much uncertainty in the world). What I would do instead is (after your promotion to MD, after a year of performing well at that level) is use that review as an opportunity to discuss how your comp and how it aligns with peers at other firms.
Pros: money.
Cons: burning bridges with Deloitte partners, but also, it’s hard for them to argue that $100K isn’t a good reason to leave; rebuilding the reputation and network that you already have at D; having to relearn internal processes/technology/protocols at a new firm may make your MD transition a bit harder
Also think about things like travel requirements.
Direct admit MDs generally have a short shelf life. Hard to come in as the new person without any internal network and knowing how things really work. Not saying you can’t be successful, but know the risks and make sure your comp reflects the risk premium.
The biggest con is that you are likely burning a bridge at Deloitte and you need to start over at a new firm.
Pros are more money and a fresh start.
The real question is which place is better for you over a 5-8 year period.
As a Deloitte partner, who gets people promoted to P/P/MD each year:
😬
What does that mean?
Sounds enticing !
Does that B4 has similar benefits? What about retirement benefits? 100K per year difference for how many years (how many years left before you retire).
Would you have to network all over again? What about client base?
I think it may still be ok to move as a 1st year MD and you may have some runway to build all that. People that you already know there, would you consider them your close network?
I have seen many people move from D SM & MD to PWC at MD level and they seem to be doing ok there.
I would consider.
Don’t lateral unless going to the new firm as an equity partner / principal. If you want to be a “non equity” equilivent, stay where you’re at
I have never seen someone make a lateral move between firms and keep the same promotion timeline. So the competing firm is offering a block of $$ to make you move but then you have to turn around and rebuild your networks and reputation to get to the next level. The money will wash out in the end. Make your decision based on the differentiators in the firm, the people you want to build your career with, and the work you want to do. The money will sort itself out.
Focus on culture and network. Are you happy and supported at Deloitte? If so, take the promotion. Your comp will accelerate once you hit MD. Think long-term, not short-term.
Check the culture if you can. I found Deloitte to be toxic but there are worse (not many) when I switched
