I'm 39 and childfree. But the road to acceptance wasn't easy. I mainly felt pressured by what's expected of women our age and hateful tropes like, "You can never experience true happiness without having kids" or "Have fun dying alone."
My philosophy with having children has always been: if it's not an absolute yes, then it's a no. I don't feel like it's a fencesitter issue. I have a badass husband and pets (whom I feel overwhelmingly love for, btw). We are free to live for ourselves. I enjoy the quiet and calm. And an added benefit is not contributing more to the climate crisis.
I feel the same, yet I think that decision should be made based only on how you feel about raising a child and not what their future experience will be like. Future generations will adapt to whatever the future brings.
If you actually think the planet is dying you absolutely should not have kids.
Or be giving legal advice.
Agree with @AS1! Don’t do it if you are not 100% sure. It’s a LOT of responsibility and ups and downs. I got pregnant by accident and kept my son. Some days I regret it bc I did not really want to be a parent and his dad is not a great person. I love him AND being a parent is really tough. I fully relate on not wanting to bring a kid into this madness. Since mine is already here, I just hope he is part of the revolution that overhauls our broken systems and gets us all to a better place.
