Not a big deal and let it go!
Well - where do things stand now? Do others know about it, or are you now trying to fix it single-handedly?
This happens to everyone in some way - we are wrong on a judgment call. The best thing to do is own the mistake and learn from it. At the time what made you choose the “ wrong” way vs what would you have made you choose the right one?
There is very rarely a shortcut that works long term.
Others know about it and are thinking how to fix it. I was just under a lot of stress due to it being year end close, year end audit, and acting as the Controller for 3 different plants at the time due to turnover. My mind was not in the right spot and just went the “easy way”.
Im also a controller and have made mistakes, too. You have to give yourself grace if you had good intentions when you made the judgment call. We’re human, so just learn from it and try to do better. This one mistake doesnt define you as a failire whatsoever, unless you dont learn from it.
Everyone makes mistakes. The important part is how you deal with it. Make sure to use this moment as lesson for the future. Come up with a process or plan to prevent it from happening again.
This is so life
Is it the kind of big mistake that can get you fired? If so, start looking for a new job.
Be accountable...if it's had a considerable impact that has Sr. Leader's visibility, be sure to convey a proactive path that minimizes the issue going forward. Take the initiative and construct a lessons learned analysis if you feel you need to. Mistakes happen, just make sure you make efforts to be due diligent and thorough where you can...don't be lazy.
