My wife and I are planning on having kids soon. I’m building a new practice at a new firm. Any advice on juggling both and setting up boundaries? Do I take a week/weeks off when baby is born and just recognize probably no bonus this year? (Salary is good, I’m not desperate for money.)

If it is at all possible for you to take some time off and financially be fine with no bonus I would strongly suggest you do so. It will give you time to adjust to your new addition and help your wife as she recovers. It is a really important bonding time with your new little one. Setting up boundaries is hard but things definitely have to adjust. I think what helped most was setting days I would be back at 5-5:30 and a set day to work late if necessary. Any extra support you can put in place for the two of you when baby comes- meal delivery of healthy meals or frozen meals in the freezer, housekeeping even if temporary, support from family and friends so you can have a nap etc. is going to help set you up success.

Bonding with the baby is a real thing. I suggest taking off as much time as possible.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of real estate private equity fund structure:

-Ability for the Sponsor/Fund to invest directly, indirectly and in equity, debt, Pref, etc.
To me this seems extremely cumbersome and would require multiple classes of (cont’d)
