I live alone and used to have someone come in once every three weeks. Absolutely loved coming home from the airport to find fresh vacuum lines in the carpet. I had so little time at home that I didn’t want to feel like I wasted it doing housework
Wife doesn’t travel and Still one of best decisions I ever made. We pay $120 per visit (3 bedroom, 2 bath) and she comes once every two weeks. Mexican lady. Does great work. Such a low cost...$3K per year and place always looks good and never have to worry. I actually went and got a gardener for the yard, too. I work hard and bring home the bacon. I want to enjoy my weekends not spend them cleaning and doing yard work.
I’m the same and hate spending frivolously. When I got pregnant I was too tired to clean and now we have someone come In once a month. Obviously once a month we r still doing maintenance ourselves but having someone do the deep cleaning is great!
Do it! We are both on the road, and only have the weekend together. 4 bedroom 3 bath 2 living areas in Dallas and I pay 125 takes her about 3-4 hours twice a month. Also have lawn service every week during summer and that is 35 a week. Trust me will be the best decision you have ever made!
Just do it
Penny wise, pound foolish. Buy yourself flexibility
PwC 5 - We pay $375 a week, and we withhold taxes and do it all legally. We also allow/encourage our household manager to eat with us or pack up dinner, and give her a lot of flexibility outside of the 15 kid hours. She’s in college so she does all the other stuff around her schedule. I don’t care whether she goes to the grocery at 10AM Monday or 2PM Friday. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve been traveling for 15 years, my SO travels 1-2 weeks per month, and we’ve never been able to justify hiring a housekeeping service. We are frugal and see no reason we can’t divide and conquer routine house chores and get them done quickly. We see no reason to pay someone to do it
Another reason why I need to leave the Midwest
For those of you who have a cleaning person/service what all do you have them do? And any tips on how to pick a good one?
Wife and I do once a month for 100 bucks. Deep cleans kitchen and bathrooms plus other general cleaning. Worth it!
War zone is so apt P6! 😂
Whatever works for your lifestyle is what’s right for you. The end.
Can’t live without it
I have someone come every few weeks. Worth it for the fact that she nips the floors and does a “deep clean” in the bathroom and kitchen each time. Well worth it, otherwise I would never clean it as well and it would gradually build up and get worse.
We are having the same discussion. I keep saying we can do it ourselves but I’m starting to realize with our schedules (SO is at the hospital days and nights), we may just have to hire someone. Comforting to hear we aren’t alone, haha.
PWC1 who do you use? I’m in the ATL area and looking to hire someone
How do you deal with parents and other relatives who might think you’re lazy if you don’t clean up yourself?
C2: I am in the remote burbs (Forsyth). There are plenty of people available for cleaning service. Next time you see a landscaper in your place, ask him to find you someone. Best way to find hard working people who value their work.
A1: why do you care what your parents or other think of it. If they are so judgmental they can come and clean it for you.
After 13 years traveling weekly I finally hired a cleaner and it was the best decision I ever made!! I was initially worried about theft, insurance, someone looking through my stuff, etc... but quickly realized how silly all that was. I put an application on sittercity.com and did reference checks on 3 people. That’s all it took. We found our person and she is amazing. We do every other week and I look forward to it every time. Just do it!
Yes yes yes. Hired my housekeeper in 2012 and will never go back. Obviously have income to pay for it but I don’t want to spend my few non working hours doing housework. I also have a gardener. We aren’t messy and have low maintenance yard so both are quite reasonable.
Two kids and my partner works long hours, although local. Also two dogs and a cat. We hired someone 25 hours a week. She spends 10 of them cleaning, laundry, groceries, yard, dinner prep, etc and 15 with the kids after school. Expensive, yes a little. Offset by not paying for after school care and having the weekends together
