Partners / experienced professionals, what do u day to someone who is choosing his path in life, but is worried his chosen path will be replaced by AI?

When AI learns to deal with organizational politics, inertia and all the other BS we enable clients to overcome on a daily basis I'll become worried. For now, it's just another tool in the ol' toolbox.

likeupliftingfunny

I’d say not to worry. “AI” and other automation has already taken over many jobs, but computers are dumb, and AI is no exception. Did you ever realize that AI is just a computer taking a series of guesses? You’ll lose your job to AI when you become both lazy and stop analyzing situations.

Though I agree AI will be a tool in the tool box, it’s utility will probably diminish how many of us are required to do the same job.

My main advice would be to focus on developing the skills that AI will have difficulty replicating (e.g. things that involve influence and facilitation), and make sure to stay abreast of the latest AI tools and how they can be leveraged to make you faster at what you do.

like

@PWC 1; I don’t think that’s an accurate portrayal of the universe of AI capabilities. Even if it was, I wouldn’t bet against a system that can quickly make millions upon millions of guesses and leverage “correct”/“incorrect" outcomes to identify patterns that create a reasonable facsimiles of analytical decision making.

TL;DR 1000 monkeys typing on 1000 laptops for 1000 years

But do you want to read what those monkeys wrote? Fish through all that garbage to find the Shakespeare? I love automation and advanced analytics, but strongly sympathize with the dude that wrote that all the most breathless AI prognosticators are people that don’t truly understand it, and haven’t spent years watching shitty robots fall over.

@OW,

1. The point is that with enough processing power and the right algorithms “fishing through the garbage” becomes much less of a hassle—and eventually it’ll be almost imperceptible (e.g. Our current computers do an astounding number of operations every second that we don’t even notice—all we see is answers
to our queries and responses to our prompts).

2. I’m sure the Wright brothers crashed quite a bit as well, but that didn’t make planes any less possible—in fact most would argue that those missteps were integral to enabling their eventual success.

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞

Hi fishes, I need some guidance.

I am currently into the SAP Security domain and I absolutely do not have any interest in it. I am planning to shift to development and have started on some courses on my own.

My question is, is there any future prospects in SAP UI5 and Fiori? Since my background is in SAP, I assume it will make a domain switch easier.

Or should I move into the JS-React path since there seems to be a lot of demand? But my worry is about my lack of actual work experience

At some Big 4 companies there is a Partner / Principal group that has equity and are part owners of the business and an equivalent Managing Director group that does not have equity and are essentially employees.

How does it work at McKinsey / Bain ? Do those same distinctions exist across partner types, owner vs non owner?
